In-vivo research requires investigators and laboratory personnel to take additional safety precautions to minimize the incidence of disease and allergy. Environmental Health and Safety works in collaboration with the
IBC,CARE,and AUHSPto ensure a safe environment for those who work with animals. Review of proposed animal use includes an assessment of potential hazards specific to the proposed research. The review may also identify additional training requirements, preventative measures or special health precautions and/or monitoring. Based on the determined animal biosafety level and IACUC review, investigators may choose from pre-written animal biosafety procedures (ABP) or develop standard operating procedures (SOP) to determine the extent of controls necessary to meet optimal safety standards.
