Emergency Management Information
If You Have an Emergency:
Notify the Cornell 911 Center, operated by Cornell Police, by one of these methods:
- Call 911 from any campus phone
- call 607-255-1111 from a cellular or off-campus phone
- use a Blue Light Telephone or other emergency telephone
- in case of fire, activate the building fire alarm using a manual fire alarm pull-station.
Cornell Police will activate the appropriate emergency responders from Cornell Police, Cornell Environmental Health & Safety, Cornell Facilities Services or outside response agencies to stop the emergency and stabilize the situation.
The University first responder is empowered to take all reasonable measures deemed necessary to preserve life, property and the environment including:
- evacuate the building
- deploy appropriate resources to the scene
- call in other agencies as needed
- apply immediate remedies as necessary
- communicate with stakeholders on the scene or those potentially at risk
- notify key campus officials including senior executives as appropriate
University Emergency Management:
EH&S is responsible for the oversight and coordination of emergency management and planning activities. This is accomplished by:
- providing central coordination of emergency planning & management activities;
- overseeing the University and college/unit emergency planning processes, and conducting periodic reviews;
- ensuring that appropriate emergency training is provided to campus groups;
- conducting emergency exercises and drills.
University Operating Status:
In the event of an inclement weather condition such as a blizzard or ice storm, you should check the Operating Status web page for status of University operations. Condition updates such as delayed university openings, road closings, and university closings will be available on this site, and, through subsequent e-mails and local media as necessary.
